Our 2 day Analytics & Machine Learning Hackathon went off with a bang! Over 50 students from RMIT University, University of Melbourne, Deakin University and Monash University turned up with their laptops in hand and game face on. Teams were challenged to build solutions to real Telstra business problems using analytics, statistics, data science and machine learning.

With $2000 worth of prizes, and internships up for grabs, participants were keen to show the judges their skills.

Day 1:

Teams formed and the action started. Everyone was hard at work understanding the problem, reviewing their data and working through a solution.

Day 2:

Teams worked hard all morning and were asked to pitch their solutions to a judging panel of Telstra senior managers, in the afternoon. The competition was tough and judges were at a stalemate, deciding to award 2 teams 1st place.

Congratulations to our 2 winning teams, Sayoni and Ivy, and Adelbert and Yong!

We'd like to thank everyone who made this event possible: Telstra, RMIT Activator, Mathworks, Tableau, and Dr. Jeffrey Chan (Senior Lecturer, Computer Science and Software Engineering, RMIT University).

We’d also like to thank StrEAT catering for the great food and for OzHarvest Melbourne for rescuing any leftovers and making sure no food went to waste.
