Fuelling the Future Challenge 2025 – Hydrogen Fuel in Motorsport & STEM Innovation

Updated: Mar 21

How Hydrogen Fuel is Shaping the Future of Motorsport – Fuelling the Future Challenge 2025

The Fuelling the Future Challenge 2025 brought together students from across Australia to tackle a cutting-edge question: Can hydrogen fuel power the future of Formula 1?

As motorsport looks toward sustainable energy solutions, hydrogen fuel has emerged as a potential game-changer. This year’s challenge asked students to explore the pros and cons of hydrogen fuel, how it’s produced, and how it could be integrated into F1 cars to reduce carbon emissions while maintaining high-performance racing.

The competition was held in two stages:

  1. Victorian Finals – Hosted live at the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix 2025, where the top three teams in each division competed on stage for the championship.

  2. National Finals – Selected the top-performing teams from other states and territories, recognising outstanding submissions from across Australia.

Victorian State Finals at the Grand Prix

The VIC Finals are a one-of-a-kind STEM event, taking place at the Australian F1 Grand Prix, where students presented their innovative ideas on hydrogen fuel in motorsport to a panel of expert judges.

🏆 Primary School Winner

St. Kevin’s College (Glendalough) – Team Rivaz

🏆 Secondary School Junior Division Winner

National Finals – Recognising the Best from Across Australia

For teams outside of Victoria, we held separate state and territory finals, selecting the top team in each secondary school division. These students may not have had the chance to pitch at the Grand Prix, but their work stood out as the best in the country.
