The Bee's Knees: Building Buzzing Gardens Challenge is an exciting hands-on experience designed for students in grades 4 to 6. This challenge encourages students to explore the vital role of bees in our ecosystems by designing and creating bee-friendly gardens using various materials. Aligned with the Australian Curriculum, this challenge covers key learning areas in Science, Design and Technologies, and Digital Technologies, helping students develop a deeper understanding of the natural world while honing their research, design, and communication skills. Perfect for classroom integration, this challenge brings real-world learning to life in an engaging and meaningful way.

Why participate?

Participating in The Bee's Knees: Building Buzzing Gardens Challenge offers your students a unique opportunity to engage deeply with the natural world while mastering key curriculum objectives. This hands-on challenge goes beyond traditional classroom learning, empowering students to apply scientific inquiry, design thinking, and digital communication in a real-world context. Not only does it make learning tangible and exciting, but it also nurtures critical skills in problem-solving and creativity, all while meeting the requirements of the Australian Curriculum. By joining this challenge, you’re giving your students a memorable educational experience that inspires a lifelong love for science and the environment—right in your classroom.

Registration cost:

The cost is $220. Your school gains full access to The Bee's Knees: Building Buzzing Gardens Challenge.

Who can participate?

Students across Australia in Years 4 to 6 are invited to join The Bee's Knees Challenge. Work in small teams for a chance to win exciting prizes.

For Teachers: Download the challenge resources by completing the payment.  You'll get lots of resources to guide you. 

For Students: Form a team of up to 4 classmates and ask your teacher to download the challenge materials for you.

For Homeschoolers: Homeschool groups are welcome to join! Just complete the payment to access all the challenge resources.

Key dates to remember

Challenge start date: CLOSED

Submission deadline: Friday, 15 November 2024 (5PM AWST)

Announcement of winners: Wednesday, 4 December 2024 

School Registration

Ready to get started? Rally your squad and join us for The Bee's Knees Challenge. The closing date for entries is Friday, 15 November 2024.

$220 per school

  • Review the Terms & Conditions before proceeding with payment.

  • Pay the registration fee to gain access to all Challenge documentation including the submission link.

  • Download Challenge materials after payment and follow the instructions.

  • Create a video between 3 to 5 minutes long.

  • Submit entries using the Challenge submission link to upload the video and submit team names.

  • Ensure all entries are submitted by Friday, 15 November 2024, 5PM (AWST). Late submissions will not be accepted.
