This exciting, nationwide STEM challenge invites students from Years 3 to 11 to harness their creativity and scientific skills to turn everyday food scraps into fuel. Mapped to the Australian Curriculum, ScrapHeat encourages teams to design, test, and document their innovative process in a video submission. With a focus on sustainability and innovation, this challenge offers primary and secondary school students the chance to showcase their ingenuity and compete for prizes.

Why participate?
The ScrapHeat Challenge offers a unique opportunity for students to explore a range of essential skills from the Australian Curriculum. From scientific inquiry and sustainability to critical thinking and collaboration, this challenge empowers students to transform everyday waste into energy while applying their knowledge across various subjects. Through hands-on experiments and creative problem-solving, students connect classroom learning to real-world challenges, fostering a deeper understanding of science, technology, and environmental stewardship.
Who can participate?
Students across Australia in Years 3 to 11 are invited to join the ScrapHeat Challenge. Work in small teams for a chance to win exciting prizes for your school.

Teachers: Register your class or student groups to take part in this innovative challenge.

Students: Team up with up to 5 classmates and ask your teacher to sign you up.

Would you like to be part of the ScrapHeat Challenge in 2025? Create your investiagtion video and enter your school. The closing date for entries is Friday 15th August 2025.
Teachers who wish to participate in the ScrapHeat Challenge must first register themselves and their class. Please ensure you review the Terms and Conditions thoroughly before completing the registration.
Each registered teacher can submit multiple teams through the online Entry Form provided below. We recommend registering early to avoid any technical issues.
For each team's video submission, please provide a YouTube link on the Entry Form. Ensure that the video’s visibility is set to ‘unlisted,’ meaning it’s not publicly viewable but can be accessed by anyone with the link.
